Why Honey Keeps Almost Forever
Honey is too dry, too acidic and too sugary for most microbes to survive in, which is why a jar at the back of the cupboard is almost always still good.

Home Weird Facts
Odd but true trivia that lives rent-free in your head.
Weird Facts is where Oddly keeps the true things that sound made up: sharks that are older than trees, honey that keeps for thousands of years, a metal that melts in your hand. Every piece here is real, and each one takes a single surprising fact and explains it properly — where it comes from, why it happens, and what people often get wrong about it.
A fact earns a place here when it is surprising, when it holds up, and when there is more to say than one line. Each article is written with the help of AI and then checked against at least two independent sources, at least one of them a university, museum, science agency, journal or other official body, which are listed at the end of the piece. Wikipedia may be listed as further reading, but it never counts as one of the two. If a detail cannot be traced to a source, it is taken out.
That is the difference from a trivia list. A list gives you the fact and moves on; here you get the story behind it, the numbers, and the sources to check it yourself. If you find a mistake, every article has a way to tell us, and corrections are published on the article and on our corrections page.
